JD Vance expresses doubt over planned livestreamed execution

US Vice-President JD Vance has questioned whether the Pentagon's plan to livestream the execution of Fort Hood attacker Nidal Hasan will actually go ahead. Speaking to reporters, Vance said he was not certain the broadcast would take place, and added that he personally would not watch it even if it did happen.

Hours later, President Donald Trump said he fully supported livestreaming the execution, though he noted the Pentagon had not yet made a final decision on the matter.

Hasan, a former US Army major, killed 13 unarmed soldiers and wounded 32 others in a 2009 attack at the Fort Hood military base in Texas. The Pentagon announced this week that he is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on 3 December, which would be the first US military execution in more than 60 years.

On Thursday, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the execution would be made available to the public via livestream, stating that the public needs to understand there are serious consequences for such crimes.

As he left the White House on Friday, Trump was asked whether footage of the execution could be used as propaganda by terrorist groups.
