Missiles and drones aimed at Riyadh and other Saudi cities were intercepted after the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen struck a fuel depot near the Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa, according to coalition spokesperson Maj Gen Turki al-Maliki.

He said the interceptions followed a coalition strike on the Yemen Petroleum Company's al-Sabaha facility on Tuesday night. The Houthis had previously warned they intended to target the airport and an Aramco refinery in Riyadh, as well as Aramco's headquarters in the eastern city of Dammam.

Al-Maliki later confirmed that missiles aimed at cities including Dammam had been intercepted, though shrapnel fell in a residential area of Dhahran. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy said an Aramco administration building in Dhahran was also targeted, causing a limited fire. No casualties were reported.

The Yemen Petroleum Company, which is run by the Houthis, sought to reassure residents of Sanaa that fuel supplies in the city remained sufficient.

The developments came as the Saudi cabinet, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stated that the Iran-backed Houthi group would face consequences for its recent deadly attacks on the kingdom.
