Russia launched an attack using five glide bombs on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday morning, killing at least 20 people, including four children, according to local officials.

The bombs struck residential buildings in the southern city, injuring at least 32 others. Officials said more people remain missing and are feared to be trapped under the rubble of a destroyed apartment block.

Images and footage from the scene showed the building largely collapsed after its ground floor was hit, bringing down the upper storeys. Acting Mayor Regina Harchenko said more than 80 workers were taking part in ongoing search and rescue efforts, which were expected to continue through the day.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strikes as Russia's response to a deal announced the previous night by US President Donald Trump, which eased sanctions on Moscow to allow imports of Russian diesel. He said the attack showed Russia interpreted any reduction in pressure as a signal to continue fighting.

Zelensky also said 13 other Ukrainian regions had come under attack overnight.
