France Calls for Investigation After Diplomat Named in Epstein Documents

France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated an official inquiry following the revelation of a French diplomat's name within recently released documents related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The diplomat, Fabrice Aidan, who is currently on leave, was referenced in numerous email correspondences with Epstein between 2010 and 2017, according to reports in French media.

The French Foreign Minister has directed the matter to judicial authorities and announced the launch of an internal investigation to clarify any potential links or misconduct. The ministry described Aidan as a principal foreign affairs secretary who has been on leave for personal reasons and is currently engaged in positions within the private sector.

While the mention of Aidan's name in the Epstein files does not automatically indicate any illegal activity, the circumstances have prompted heightened scrutiny. The documents, which were recently disclosed by the U.S. Department of Justice, have already led to significant repercussions across several sectors, including resignations from prominent figures within French cultural institutions.

During his time at the UN, Aidan was serving as an adviser to Terje Rod-Larsen, a Norwegian diplomat who is also under investigation by Norwegian authorities over separate connections with Epstein.

Further reports claim that Aidan may have shared official UN documents and reports with Epstein during his period of contact. Following his departure from the United Nations, Aidan continued his international career at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and later with the energy corporation Engie. In response to the media reports, Engie has stated that Aidan has now been relieved of his duties due to the information presented regarding his previous activities, which predated his time at the company.

Additionally, the fallout from the newly released Epstein files has led to the resignation of other high-profile individuals. Jack Lang, the former French minister and head of the Arab World Institute, resigned his post after his name surfaced in connection with an offshore company established by Epstein in 2016. Lang has denied any involvement in wrongdoing, stating that he was unaware of the company's existence. In conjunction, Lang's daughter, reportedly listed as a shareholder in the offshore entity, has resigned from two professional roles.

At present, Fabrice Aidan has not made any public statements regarding the allegations or the ongoing investigations. Efforts to reach Aidan for comment have been unsuccessful, with indications that his professional social media profiles have been deactivated.
