Two of the most recognizable names in Parisian nightlife are sharing a stage this week, as Chaillot, the National Dance Theatre overlooking the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadéro, hosts a rare joint gathering of the city's cabaret institutions from September 24 to 26.
The event brings together the Moulin Rouge, Crazy Horse Paris, Madame Arthur and a roster of smaller and alternative venues under one roof, an unusual arrangement given that these houses typically operate as fierce, self-contained brands rather than sharing a stage together. Evening performances run September 24 and 25, structured as guided walking routes through the theatre that let audience members encounter different acts as they move through the building rather than sitting through a single fixed program. Saturday, September 26, shifts to a free, family-friendly afternoon of workshops and talks, including a session on the history of the French Cancan, a makeup workshop aimed at children, and a look at the skilled trades behind Moulin Rouge's productions, from costuming to stagecraft.
According to Chaillot's own event materials, the program spans roughly 150 years of cabaret history, tracing a line from the traditional French Cancan through queer performance, transformism, revue and socially engaged spoken word. That range matters because Paris's cabaret houses have historically guarded their individual identities closely. Putting the Moulin Rouge, Crazy Horse and Madame Arthur inside the same event, rather than treating cabaret as a single homogenous tourist attraction, gives the weekend a curatorial angle a standard night out at any one venue wouldn't offer.
The Chaillot weekend sits inside a larger national Cabaret Season, initiated and supported by France's Ministry of Culture, with events planned across multiple French regions through the rest of the year, including a touring photography exhibition celebrating cabaret artists and venues nationwide. Culture Minister Rachida Dati framed the initiative around the idea that cultural creation needs active defense, describing culture as a space of freedom that has to be reaffirmed.
Chaillot sits at 1 Place du Trocadéro, easily reached by métro at the Trocadéro station, with the theatre's grand foyer itself offering one of the more striking views of the Eiffel Tower available from indoors anywhere in the city. The event carries a recommended minimum age of 16, reflecting the more adult-oriented material featured in the evening cabaret programming, while Saturday's workshop afternoon is designed to be accessible to families and younger visitors.
