Inside the Louvre's €800 Million Plan to Give the Mona Lisa Her Own Room

Two new creative directors, four major houses returning after skipping a season, and a nine-day schedule that's noticeably calmer than the chaos of the year before that's the shape of Paris Fashion Week as the Spring/Summer 2027 calendar gets underway. For a city whose late-September tourism traditionally slows once summer ends, that's not just an industry story; it's an economic one too.
The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the body that organizes Paris's official show schedule, has confirmed Women's Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2027 will run nine days, from September 28 to October 6, bringing together 68 runway shows and 33 presentations across the city. That's noticeably leaner than the previous Spring/Summer 2026 edition's 74 shows and 37 presentations a season widely described at the time as one of the most turbulent in recent memory because of an unusually high number of designer exits and debuts happening at once.
This time, only two new creative directors are making their runway debuts on the official calendar. Drew Henry presents his first collection for Courrèges on September 30, and Kai Nesselrath debuts as design director at Carven on October 1 a far quieter changeover season than the industry saw twelve months earlier.
Several major houses that sat out Paris last season are back. Valentino, which staged its Fall 2026 show in Rome instead, returns to the Paris calendar. Maison Margiela, previously showing in Shanghai, is back as well, alongside Sacai and a returning Ester Manas, Christopher Esber and Casablanca, all of whom skipped the last cycle entirely.
The week opens with Belgian designer Julie Kegels on September 28 and closes with Louis Vuitton on October 6. Some of the most closely watched days are stacked: September 30 features The Row, Balmain, Dries Van Noten, Stella McCartney, Acne Studios and Tom Ford, on top of the Courrèges debut. Sunday brings Miu Miu — which has shifted its show to that day alongside Valentino, Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier, while Chanel keeps its traditional Monday evening slot.
The season also widens who gets official recognition. Maxhosa Africa, the South African label founded by designer Laduma Ngxokolo and known for knitwear drawing on Xhosa beadwork traditions, joins the official show calendar for the first time. On the presentation side, newcomers include Fidan Novruzova, a Central Saint Martins graduate of Azerbaijani and Moldovan background who was a semi-finalist for the 2024 LVMH Prize, and Alexandra Golovanoff, a Paris-based designer and journalist who launched her own cashmere line in 2016.
Not every major name is present. Rabanne is skipping the season ahead of Olivier Rousteing's debut as creative director next March, and Nina Ricci is absent following designer Harris Reed's departure. Alaïa, still without a permanent successor to Pieter Mulier after his move to Versace earlier this year, will present a studio-designed collection rather than a full runway show, on October 3.
For a city whose economy leans heavily on tourism, luxury retail and hospitality, Fashion Week isn't simply a spectacle for editors and buyers it's a genuine commercial event. The nine-day calendar draws international press, retail buyers and clients into the city's hotels, restaurants and boutiques at a point in the year when Paris tourism traditionally slows after summer, a detail that matters as much to independent shopkeepers near the show venues as it does to the houses themselves. It's also worth noting that the Louvre currently mid-renovation under its own Nouvelle Renaissance project remains one of the backdrops international visitors combine with a Fashion Week trip, adding another layer to how the week ripples through the city's broader visitor economy.
